Avonex vs. Betaseron Study Started

Yet another study to compare the efficacy of once a week IFN-beta-1a with more frequent, higher dose IFN-beta-1b. This will surely change the landscape of treatments for MS (heavy sarcasm). Don't these people understand anything about science? They have 4 different variables all going at once: IFN formulation, route of administration, dose frequency, dose level. If we really want to learn something let's only compare one variable at a time to determine what matters. At least Biogen did an Avonex-Avonex comparison to see if dose level mattered in once a week injections (it doesn't). All this effort to improve marketing on a treatment that is only 30% effective. Other than Antegren (in trials currently) I don't see much going on in the way of comparing a new drug to the existing ones.
