Positive results from ASCT stem cell therapy.

A recent report from the NIH, about their HALT-MS study, published in a quarterly MS publication found autologous stem cell therapy showing some favorable results--even though the amount of test subjects is extremely small. Hey . . . who doesn't like a little good news from time to time, even though it might not pan out. Link follows.

It's about time something is done more than just describing symptoms. How much longer do we hae to wait for something signifcant?? It seems to me that it's all about the money...expensive trials of proven failures, overpaid neurologist, and money rich pharmaceutical companies!!It make me wonder if a CURE is found what excuse will "they" come up with next!!

Hey a person who has the same thoughts I do...Hats off Spiff...of course they might have a Rebif or Avonex logo on them...How much do those Pharmas spend on their paper trail? I don't want to be a walking advertisement for them. The last free dinner ...always a buffet line for me and my wobbly hands to try going thru...gave away logo encrested alcohol wipes for favors...hey how about a free month's worth of the drug they are selling? The next dinner I go to advertises not only one speaker but three out of the same neuro group.I already know about the stages of ms...i am in one. What are they going to have NEW to say? Guess I will have to do a follow up. Keep the faith. Pat

Hey . . . calm down folks! Too much vitriol without the facts here. It's really easy to throw blame around, especially if you listen to special interest blather or watch stupid movies like Michael Moore's "Sicko."

We actually talked about this at one of those free symposiums--sorry to hear you're so cynical that you know everything about MS now, and just go for the free food (maybe you should just heal yourself, if you know so much).

Anyway, here's the facts: You CAN get stem cell thearpy right now. It's in other countries, where it's unregulated. And you will return with cancer (usually leukemia). It's the RESEARCH, that is so crucial. And, yes . . . it IS expensive and takes a long time to amke sure it works in humans and is safe. The problem is that you are taking regular reporting of breakthroughs (which they ARE--breakthroughs in UNDERSTANDING of different systems). Honestly, we're looking at 10-12 years before we have the first wave of therapies based on stem cell transplantation. And, they may only be to fix existing damage, and not a CURE yet. The biopharms charge so much because the research COSTS so much. If you listen carefully at some of these symposiums put on by Biogen-Idec, or Teva, etc., then you would hear that you need to start some form of therapy early and keep it up--since MS doesn't take a vacation. The researchers can't just come across a new finding that looks good, and just throw something out there for people to use. First the FDA wouldn't let them, and even if they did . . . it would be highly unethical and dangerous to public safety.

So . . . sorry, but you do have to wait.

This sounds like every neurologist's dream. Isn't it high time they get off their a.... and go to work on finding a CURE?? With all the technology availble today 10 or more years is TOO long.
Follow the money!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Spiff...find cause, find the cure.

OK Spiff. You find the cause and you find the cure. What, you don't have the resources? To quote you directly "isn't it time you get off your a** and go to work on finding a cure?" What you don't have the education or capabilities to do this yourself? Why don' you enlist the help of others? Don't know others with such resources or capabilities? Then BE QUIET please! Your cynacysm is not productive - try acting on your own tagline, instead of criticising others ( in generalities) for your perceived lack of action on their part. I learned a long time ago that in this life NO One Owes Me Anything, least of all a cure to a complex and very personal condition.

OK, I'm going to step in as moderator here and ask that if you are feeling angry or upset, don't post further comments. Just let it go.
