Really? Her husband is a Senator and you didn't even know that MS affedted her family. She could have lent her name or status to the cause for many years, (including when he was a state Senator), she had a stage and status and she seems to have done nothing. I guess we can always hope....

Yes, that's true Art. However, they were going through her charitable activities in the video last night and there were examples, but nothing about MS. If it truly mattered to her she would be involved already. Just a thought. I think ALL politicians bring up thing to conveniently seem more compassionate and "just like the rest of us", but we should pay attention to their ACTIONS. :)

As the daughter of a father who had MS, I could identify with Michelle Obamba. My dad also struggled with MS until the final end and my mother became the strong partner who took up the slack when my dad's health failed.
what they did not do is make it so it was the struggle for the whole family...telling us that MS was not catchable.
Perhaps that is Michelles way of dealing with it...to ingnore it.
Sorry but it does not go away..you and your children inherit the genes that can cause MS.
Ignorance is not bliss but it is an excuse.
I have a bit milder case of MS than my father or my cousins on my fathers side of the family had.
I contracted the disease at a late date in life and take copaxone regularly hoping to make it to the other side of something leading to a cure.
Somehow i think it is impossible only 400,000 people have MS. What is the worlwide tally?
waiting for the cure...thank you all for your efforts to find it.

I've read a lot of the comments. Only too happy to add my two cents....because....I HAVE MS. I find it rediculous to expect that a Senator's wife should run around beating a "My daddy had MS drum" She mentioned it in her speech to demonstrate the amazing intestinal fortitude her parents displayed. Not to establish a "poor us platform" or to "milk" daddy's illness for sympathy. As it was mentioned earlier, the only time most of us hear from a Senator's wife there's usually a husband's sex scandal involved. Why on earth make an issue of her NOT making an issue. Michelle Obama has my complete respect and admiration for all that she HAS accomplished.

O.K., I have heard several times now in political speches, and biographical reports, that Michelle Obama's father died of MS. What exactly did he die from? Complications, I imagine?
Since I have MS, and have told my children that you cannot die from MS. These comments heard continually during the campaign, have greatly upset them.
Do we have a greater explanation of the cause, or am I telling my chilren wrongly?

Well, to be fair, Senator's wives don't *usually* get much spotlight (unless there's a sex scandal :-). First ladies get far more.

Paris Hilton was going to make a big effort to help cure MS too. Actions do speak louder than words.
