BHT-3009 vaccine shows no impact on disability or relapse rate

In an article that starts out saying " newly developed DNA vaccine appears to fundamentally alter the disease course of multiple sclerosis in patients with relapsing remitting multiple sclerosis," we find buried further down "Unfortunately, we did not see an effect on disability or relapse rates."

Now which is more important?

I saw the ECTRIMS talk that reviewed this data and one reason why the investigators didn't see an effect on disability or relapse rates was that the study lasted only 44 weeks and included only 289 subjects. The effects that were detected in this short timespan included reduction of MRI lesions and antibodies to MBP. The drug's sponsor will need to do a larger study to see whether BHT-3009 will affect disability or relapses too.
