HLA-DR15 Haplotype and MS
I'm happy to announce that the Accelerated Cure Project has had its first paper published!
Hollie Schmidt, in collaboration with the Centers for Disease Control and Duke University, has produced a review paper looking at the role of the HLA-DR15 Haplotype in MS. This is a cluster of genes that has shown repeated association with MS in many previous studies. Hollie was approached to work on this review as a result of her work on the Cure Map project at Accelerated Cure Project.
After reading and reviewing 72 published papers, they concluded:
In most of these papers, investigators reported a higher frequency of the DR15 haplotype and/or its component alleles among MS cases than among controls. However, the authors' confidence in these results is tempered by factors related to study design that may have biased the outcomes.
Obviously there is more to the genetic component of MS than just this portion of the genome - let's keep looking!
