Another MS Drug Company Joins the Fray

Virogenomics, Inc. announced that it has spun-off Artielle ImmunoTherapeutics, Inc. Artielle is a privately held autoimmune therapeutics company located in Portland. Its technology, licensed from Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU), is based on a new proprietary class of molecules known as Recombinant T cell receptor Ligands (RTLs) that can be tailored to treat a wide range of autoimmune diseases. Artielle has developed a lead compound for the treatment of multiple sclerosis, called RTL1000, which has received Orphan Drug status from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.

It's hard to get too excited about these new therapies that are still based on an old notion: that MS is primarily an atuoimmune disorder

I concur - I'd like to see more drugs targetting neuro-protection. Or some research proving MS is autoimmune.
What are other theories considered to be valid?

Some believe that there is a pathogen involved and that the immune response is actually valid, not auto. Others think that there is some disorder of the neuron or oligodendricyte that prompts the destruction of myelin and the inflammation is in response to that.
