Skin cancer data in PwMS supports sun theory

Adding support for the idea that sun exposure helps prevent MS is a new study from the UK showing that people with MS appear to have a lower risk of skin cancer than average (and thus may have had less sun exposure). By examining hospital records and death certificates, researchers found that people with MS had approximately half the rate of skin cancer as the general public. The skin cancer rate for people with other autoimmune or neurological diseases was the same as the general public, so this finding appears to be specific to MS. Also, the risk of other types of cancers was no different in people with MS compared with other groups, so the finding is not due to a general reduction in cancer rates in MS.
