o After 8 years of a life dedicated 100% to MS, Art Mellor has left
to pursue additional interests. He will retain a position on
Accelerated Cure Project's national board and will maintain a
consulting relationship to aid in transition and future projects. We
wish him success in his new endeavors!
>>> Research
o We reached a new milestone on June 25 -- enrollment of our 1,000th
MS subject!
o Another milestone was the opening of our ninth collection
site: The Rocky Mountain MS Center at Anschutz Medical Campus at the
University of Colorado Denver. If you live in or can travel to the
Denver area and would like to enroll in our repository there, please
contact Sara Loud at sloud at acceleratedcure.org or 1-781-487-0032.
o During May and June, we enrolled 66 new subjects in our repository,
resulting in a total of 1,616 subjects. Our sites also conducted 30
longitudinal visits, bringing us to a total of 78.
o Sara, Hollie and Art attended the annual conference of the
international biobanking organization ISBER, where Sara and Hollie
gave a presentation and held a meeting for their working group on
marketing and cost recovery.
o We continued working with Diogenix and the Guthy-Jackson Foundation
to collect samples meeting their specific needs. Our UMass, UT
Southwestern, and Johns Hopkins sites all received approval to
conduct a special collection for Diogenix involving people with MS
who are going on steroid treatment for relapses.
o We distributed samples and data from 5 NMO subjects and 5 controls
to Dr. Roberto Baccala at Scripps Research Institute. You can read
about this project and 19 other studies we have supported here:
http://www.acceleratedcure.org/repository/research.php
o We received three other proposals in May and June and they are
currently being evaluated.
>>> Education
o We continue our MS News updates, although on a less frequent basis
due to Art's departure (1-2 times per week):

>>> Community Building
o YPAC - 'Young Professionals Accelerating the Cure' has officially
launched. We have an enthusiastic group of young professionals
dedicated to Accelerated Cure Project's mission leading this initiative.
o Accelerated Cure Project is proud to announce that Fast Forward, a
subsidiary of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, has formally
decided to collaborate with and endorse Accelerated Cure Project's MS
repository. Specific details regarding what this collaboration will
entail will follow.
