Accelerated Cure Project informal status for the month of April 2009

>>> Joining/Leaving Us Last Month

o Erin Fitzgerald joined us last month as our new Special Events
  Coordinator. You can read more about her here:

o Melissa O'Shea & Sarah Nels (former employees) are both back doing
  some part-time consulting for us as we ramp up our Major Gift
  campaign. 

>>> Research

Repository:

o 34 new subjects enrolled (25 MS, 3 NMO, 2 TM, 4 controls) in the
  repository during the month of April to result in a total of 1540
  subjects.  Also, nine follow-up visits were conducted to result in a
  total of 48 now completed.

o We distributed 15 serum samples (10 NMO, 5 control) to Dr. Alan
  Verkman from UCSF who is studying the role of aquaporin-4 and
  antibodies to this protein in NMO.

o We officially kicked off our collaboration with diagnostics
  developer Diogenix, with whom we are working to enroll specific
  categories of subjects.

o Hollie, Art and Sara met with Alberto Ascherio and Claire Simon to
  discuss a project they have proposed that involves using repository
  samples.

o Hollie and Sara met with Ben Greenberg to discuss ideas for the
  future development of the repository.

Other Scientific Efforts:

o Art and Hollie traveled to Seattle for the annual meeting of the
  American Academy of Neurology where they attended the scientific
  presentations and met with a number of people. Their notes are

o Sara attended a conference called "Building Linked Web Communities
  in Biomedicine to Accelerate Research."

o Erin and Kristin attended the Volunteer Expo at Copley Plaza on
  Thursday, April 16th and were able to talk to prospective volunteers
  about our mission and volunteer opportunities.

o Randi Southwick who will be organizing a "Sipping for Diamonds"
  component of the October 17th, "Opening Doors" Recognition Dinner.

o Art and Debbie Mellor hosted the Marathon pre-party for our runners
  and their families.

o Carey Peabody and Ed Isaaks held a cultivation event at their home
  in Redwood City, CA. Thanks guys!

o April 20, Boston, MA: Our 2009 Boston Marathon Team worked extremely
  hard to fundraise and train!  We had 13 dedicated runners this year
  who teamed up to raise almost $60,000 for Accelerated Cure Project!

o April 26, Mountain View, CA: Ann Assarsson, soprano, and Steven
  Moellering, piano, held "Songs of Hope," a Spring vocal and piano
  recital at Masonic Hall to raise funds for the Accelerated Cure
  Project and accelerate the fight against MS!

o October 5-11, Bay Area, CA: The Tyler Hamilton Foundation and
  Accelerated Cure Project are teaming up again for MS Global 2009!
  25 riders will embark on multi-day cycling event in Northern
  California with US Pro Cycling Champion and Olympic gold medalist,
  Tyler Hamilton, as they raise funds to fight MS.

o October 17, Boston, MA: Join us for our Inaugural 'Opening Doors'
