Boston Cure Project informal status since last reported on 4/16/02:
We continue our work to cure Multiple Sclerosis via developing the
Cure Map:
o Hollie Schmidt has a first draft of our pathogen document out for
review. This document breaks down how diseases are caused by
pathogens in a systematic fashion. It is being reviewed by several
members of our Scientific Advisory Board plus some other
scientists.
o Tim Vartanian continues the literature search for research on
genetics and MS as it relates to our genetic disease breakdown.
o Meetings and phone calls with the founders of US Genomics (working
on high-speed, low-cost, complete genome sequencing), John Reed of
the Burnham Institute (a similar minded organization working on
cancer), Arlyn White and Linda Guiod (President and VP of NE NMSS
chapter), Arthur Ullian of the National Council on Spinal Cord
Injury, Stephanie Clipper of the NIH (she's the nonprofit liaison),
Billi Goldberg (AIDS science advocate), Paul Jones of
www.mult-sclerosis.org, and a really good lunch with our Pharma
Board member Ayad Abdul-Ahad from Berlex (and formerly of Rebif).
o Continued the always ongoing fundraising effort. You can make a
contribution at: http://www.bostoncure.org/default.php?nav=involved
Joining us:
o Hollie Schmidt started her full-time position as VP Scientific
Operations to run the Cure Map effort full-time.
Volunteer Efforts:
o The MSNews Portal is so close to launching we can taste it. Thanks
to Brian Del Vecchio, the software is up and running, cleaned up and
ready to go. We'll be announcing the volunteer tasks we need help
with shortly
o The main web site update project by Deb Brown, Theresa Hahn, and
Chad Tempest is moving forward - mostly waiting for some work that I
need to do :-)
o Some work on a new corporate overview has been started by George
Peabody.
o PR work is in high-gear thanks to Krista Milne, and a possible
television PSA is being developed with help from Robotham Creative.
o A volunteer task list for our web site is being written up by Lisa
Sargeant.
o The MS101 document Allitia DiBernardo is working on is progressing
nicely.
o A Clinical Trials document is being developed by Margaret Doris.
o A search to find sites that we should be linked on is under way by
Dave Baker and Rachel Golub.
o A citation database to hold the results of the literature searches
we are doing is being developed by Mark Dombeck and Robin
Whitworth.
o And a nice upgraded firewall script has been developed by David
Burrage and just needs to be reviewed, installed, and tested.
Events:
o Ken Siegel hosted an excellent house party to help us raise
funds. It was a lot of fun and we got to use the diner he has in his
basement. Yes, he has a diner in his basement.
