Hello,
Here's another informal status update from the Boston Cure Project.
Since the last report (01/21/2002) we have been working on the
following things:
o Working with Tax Attorney volunteer Eva Alpert to get our 2001
filings ready, prepping for our financial Audit, and working with
volunteer Jill McGaffigan (and Peter Schmidt and Mike Gonnerman) to
get our financial plan for the year pulled together.
o We have retained the services of Rita Feurst-Adams, a fundraising
consultant specializing in start-up nonprofits to help us get our
fundraising plan for the year together. We are launching our
fundraising campaign for the year now and would love to hear from
you regarding contributions.
o Our volunteer coordinator Debbie Burrage has been in full swing
pulling together our volunteer orientation meeting. That's February
12th at 7pm here in Waltham:

o As a company, we had our Winter Gathering party at my house where we
all had a chance for the staff to get together with our Directors
and Advisors and have everyone meet each other - it was a huge
success due to the efforts of volunteers Debbie Mellor, Rachel
Golub, and Theresa Hahn.
o We welcomed Kevin Gulley to our Board of Advisors. Kevin has been
informally helping out the organization almost since its
inception. His bio will be up on the site soon.
o Leora Schiff has joined as volunteer staff doing business
development for us. In addition she is leading an MIT $50K contest
team to develop and submit a business plan based on the Boston Cure
Project. You can read more about Leora at:
http://www.bostoncure.org/default.php?nav=bcp&topic=people&bio=LeoraSchiff
and more about the MIT $50K contest at:

Leora has been busily getting us in touch with geneticists such as
Eric Lander, Mark Daly, and Trey Ideker at the Whitehead Institute
and pharma companies like Merrimack Pharmaceuticals.
o Cure Map is getting reviewed by several geneticists include Doug
Barker and David Simon.
o We're still working on pulling our Newsletter and our Annual Report
together with help from volunteers Joe Volpe and Michael MacKenzie -
we'll announce their availability when ready.
o Cure Map work on the pathogens track has begun with help from Hollie
Schmidt and Tim Vartanian and our system for diseases caused by
pathogens is beginning to take form.
Those are most of the highlights from the past few weeks. Feel free to
email or call with questions.
Regards,
Art Mellor
