 |
 Tim Vartanian, M.D., Ph.D., is a dedicated clinician, researcher and
teacher. Dr. Vartanian is Chief of the Division on Demyelinating
Diseases at the
Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center
(BIDMC), holds an appointment as Senior Associate Neurologist in the
Department of Neurology at BIDMC and is an Associate Professor of
Neurology at Harvard Medical School. He received his Ph.D. in
biochemistry and molecular biology from the University of Chicago and
his M.D. from the Pritzker School of Medicine, also at the University
of Chicago. His internship, residency, and two research fellowships
were at what are among Boston's most respected major medical
institutions; respectively, Brigham and Women's Hospital,
Massachusetts General Hospital, Beth Israel Hospital, and Harvard
Medical School.
His primary research interests are in the molecular basis of the
axonal control of myelination, the oligodendrocyte cytoskeleton, cell
shape and motility, as well as oligodendrocyte injury. He has
co-authored several book chapters and has published articles in a wide
array of esteemed scientific and medical journals, such as the Journal
of Physical Chemistry, the Journal of Cell Biology, the Journal of
Neurobiology, the Proceedings of the National Academy of Science,
Science, Nature, and the New England Journal of Medicine.
