Major Gifts Officer

Accelerated Cure Project seeks a Major Gifts officer with demonstrated success in acquiring, cultivating and soliciting prospects for annual and special gifts. A strong drive to be successful as a team and as an individual, coupled with a deep personal commitment to accelerating the pace and quality of scientific collaboration leading to a cure for multiple sclerosis, will be essential.

The Major Gifts Officer is an integral part of a growing fund raising team. The Major Gifts Officer will meet with donors to cultivate and solicit for the "Opening Doors" comprehensive fundraising campaign emphasizing $5,000+ contributions. The position is expected to work closely with the campaign committee, donors and prospects as well as the CEO, and all co-workers.

SUMMARY:
This position is responsible for acquiring, identifying, qualifying, cultivating, soliciting and stewarding donations from both the private and public sector to maintain and expand our vital work by performing the following duties personally.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Core duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Identify and strategically cultivate and solicit donors and prospects.
Develop 2-3 fundraising appeals (including year end appeal).
Coordinate Major Gift quarterly mailings.
Identify and recruit host/hostess for 4-5 national cultivation events.
Manage dedicated portfolio of donors and prospects.
Document donor contacts following established protocols.
Provide regular reports on prospect management and fund raising results.
Upon request, participate in major donor events locally and throughout the nation.
Participate in case development for initiative funding.
Achieve stated major gifts fundraising goals on a small team that raises close to $2 million per year currently, and plans to double that amount.
Leverage other tools available for increasing prospect understanding and loyalty.
Coordinate proposals and solicitations of corporations and foundations.
Engage major donor prospects and suspects via personal e-mails, phone calls, letters and meetings in ongoing communication throughout the year in a volume necessary to achieve major gifts goals.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
Four-year college or university program certificate required.
3+ years related experience and/or training.
Must demonstrate successful major gifts experience including identification, cultivation and solicitation of five- and six-figure gifts from individuals.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Ability to communicate with managers, clients, customers and the general public.
Ability to read and interpret business writings such as general business periodicals, and professional journals.
Problem solving abilities.
Good mathematical skills.
Ability to write reports, business correspondence and procedure manuals.
Ability to use multiple software platforms including specialized database software.
Knowledge and experience in conducting major gifts solicitations and cultivation.
Thorough knowledge of general office procedures.
Adaptable to a variety of social settings, with knowledge and tolerance of diverse communities and ideas.
Good oral and written communication.
Able to organize work with attention to detail.
Able to learn about organizational issues on an ongoing basis.
Able to travel and adapt to a broad variety of work conditions.
